About the Data Bank

The UdeA Terminology Data Bank is a project developed by the School of Languages with the support of the Communications Office and the International Affairs Office of Universidad de Antioquia. The final product, presented here, provides a bilingual resource for linguistic mediators (translators, technical writers, interpreters, and other communicators) and members of the university community who need to encode or decode specific information from Universidad de Antioquia in English and/or Spanish.

This project gathers interests and advances achieved since the administration of former Director of the School of Languages, Paula Andrea Echeverri Sucerquia, and with the support of professors Pedro Nel Patiño García, Juan Guillermo Ramírez Giraldo, Juan Manuel Pérez Sánchez and John Jairo Giraldo. In addition, this initiative is articulated with the interest of the Communications Office and the International Affairs Office of Universidad de Antioquia to create a terminology database that collects a large number of terms that are part of Universidad de Antioquia’s nomenclature.

At this initial stage, the bank has 678 terms in Spanish with their equivalents in English. It has been created during the years 2022 and 2023 with the leadership and academic rigor of the Director of the School of Languages, Professor Jaime Usma, and the coordinator of the Translation and Interpretation Agency, Professor Claudia Elena Urrego Zapata, in collaboration with Professor and researcher Jorge M. Porras-Garzón (at the time of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra), Professor Juan Manuel Pérez Sánchez, acting as academic internship advisor, intern Stiven Siegert, translator Natalia Wills, and the academic internship coordinator of the undergraduate program in Translation (English-French-Spanish), Pedro Nel Patiño García.
